Hat Trick of Awards for Waitrose

On Thursday 8th Nov, The Grosvenor House Hotel in London played host to the 2012 prestigious Quality Food Awards. Will was in attendance with Waitrose for whom he is a Consultant Pastry Chef. Waitrose celebrated by winning 3 prestigious Q Awards for their Chilli Pesto, LOVE Life Lemon Rasam Soup and Seriously Passion Fruit Assiette.

Will’s contribution along with team members Jan Maish (Product Developer), Will Watts (Technologist), Amy Hall and David Stone (Buyers), helped to win the “Other Seasonal Category Q Award” with their Seriously Passion fruit Assiette. All were there along with representatives from dessert producer Rhokett to collect the award, which was presented by Food Critic and Broadcaster Jay Rayner.

“Very rich and tasty”, was the verdict of one impressed judge who also said the product was “very well presented” and another praised the “interesting good passion fruit flavours, real rich cocoa notes and light aerated textures” and said it created a “wow” factor at the table. One taster also said the quality made it a “restaurant style” product with “each dessert distinct in flavour despite common ingredients”.

On winning the award, Will Torrent commented; “Having developed the Passionfruit Assiette along with the Waitrose dessert team, winning the Q Award really was a fantastic and proud moment! We all worked really hard on the dessert and love it too. Collecting the award with everyone made it even more sweet!…..A fantastic night for Waitrose and the team!
